The hospital acquisitions were a part of offering treatment near to the patient’s own homes and utilizing the best practices in hospital management that as an institute Shalby Hospitals had acquired in the past two decades.

Dr Vikram started with a single speciality nursing home with 20 beds in 1994 in Ahmedabad. His beginnings were modest but soon the number of surgeries increased exponentially. The Krishna Heart Institute [KHI] of Ghuma, Ahmedabad, was commissioned in 2000. The newly built state of the art hospital offered the right infrastructure for TKR and Dr Vikram began operating overseas patients in KHI.

TKR patients who were beneficiaries of Health Insurance or their employers were mostly operated in KHI. Also, patients needing other specialty care were better treated in KHI.

The need to have a multi specialty back up for TKR and THR led to his building the first multi specialty hospital in 2007. After that he stopped operating in KHI.

The next two hospitals, this time in Goa, were acquired in 2011. The fifth hospital was bought in Vapi [Gujarat] in 2012. The sixth hospital, acquired in 2012, was the greatest acquisition till date, the Krishna Heart Institute [KHI]. As Dr Vikram used to operate at KHI, its acquisition was a major step ahead in getting more beds and high end infrastructure in Ahmedabad itself.

KHI was renamed Krishna Shalby Hospital [KSH]. Dr Vikram turned around its dire financial position and achieved breakeven in a matter of ten months. The old style low rise building of KSH looks very beautiful in the lush green surroundings of Ghuma, a part of Ahmedabad.

Dr Vikram works mainly at the main unit at S G Road and at Krishna Shalby Hospital. He has operated at many hospitals all over India and abroad.
